Education

Do you teach?

Besides my artistic practice, I frequently teach at visual art programs, both bachelor and masters, with courses by my own design. Occasionally I teach at other academic programs as well. I create workshops, give talks, perform studio visits and make other educational contributions.

Art School Courses

Tutor BEAR ArtEZ (BFA)

In 2023, I taught Future Fields at BEAR, ArtEZ, Arnhem (NL). This 6-week course considered how speculative futures can contribute to new relations with the land, and "new" ways of living, prompted by ongoing climate and societal change. From macro to micro, from big dreams to significant details; we asked who and what to consider while "designing" the future. What do we need to be mindful of? Whose future are we talking about? In the  course, for which I collaborated with the Four Siblings, students considered art-making, filmmaking, writing, farming, land-skills, story-telling and rituals as complementary tools to create and conjure more just futures.

Tutor Ecology Futures (MFA)

In 2021 and 2022, I taught Community of All Beings and Future Fields at the Ecology Futures MA, MIVC|St. Joost, Den Bosch (NL). These modules focus on the development, contemplation and materialization of 'progressive' more-than-human futures. Students investigated the western concept of ‘nature’ and how it created false dichotomies. They looked at how a queering of the world could bring about new avenues of thought and development. We looked at the (hidden) colonial or western/industrial sentiments often hidden in recent futurisms, and we discussed indigenous ontologies and how they surpass western ways of seeing things.

Workshops & Symposia

2023: EARTHBOUND Symposium, Denmark

I spoke at the EARTHBOUND "Sensuous knowledge and the planet’s future" Symposium; a program created by Earthwise Denmark, in collaboration with Aarhus University. Participants took part in a 7-day workshop event, ending with 2 days of talks and discussion with me, artist Katarina Skår Lisa, Christine Fentz, and scholar Liisa-Rávná Finbog.

2022: EARTH CRAFT, KABK Studium Generale

Here, I contributed to EARTH CRAFT at the Studium Generale of the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague. I hosted dialogues with great minds such as Vandana Shiva and Zhenevere Sophia Dao. Together with academic-activist Victoria McKenzie, I offered a workshop ritual in which we built 'Future Soil'.

2022: EARTHSHRINE, MU Hybrid Art House

Here, I created the weekend symposium Is Soil Sacred? as part of my solo-show at MU, Eindhoven. Victoria McKenzie, Georgia Kareola and myself held a discursive conversation, and later offered a music-ritual in which audiences entangled themselves with soil. The exhibition furthermore featured a library table with over 40 titles focused on soil belonging and entanglements with the more-than-human curated by Angelique Spaniks and myself.

2022: Mister Motley X RE_NATURE

I offered the workshops How to Become a Soil Priestess? in collaboration with Mister Motley and RE_NATURE. In this workshop, participants explored how artistic practices and ecological knowledge can be applied through the creation of a performative "priestess" persona.

2021: LAND, ArtEZ Studium Generale

Some of my artistic work is included in the online course created by Anouk Mulders for ArtEZ Studium Generale, Arnhem. The course is still available here.
